GRRLS CLUB ✦ WORKSHOP WITH KIA "THE MIX ARTIST" SHAVON
The Art
of Mixing
Learn to think like an engineer and mix with confidence.
For artists, producers and beginning mixers who want better-sounding mixes — without the confusion and the guesswork.

Sound familiar?
You know the song is good.
It just doesn't sound good yet.
You can hear the record it's supposed to be in your head. Getting it out of the speakers is where it falls apart — and nobody ever explained the part in between.
-
The vocal never sits right
Too buried, then too loud, then somehow both. You keep riding the fader instead of fixing what's actually in the way.
-
It sounds small next to real records
You A/B it with a song you love and yours feels thin, flat and far away — but you can't name the difference you're hearing.
-
You're guessing with plugins
An EQ here, a compressor there, because a video said so. You're not sure what any of them are doing, or whether they're helping.
-
Reverb turns everything to mud
Add space and you lose clarity. Take it off and it's dry and stuck to the speaker. There's no in-between yet.
-
Hours of tutorials, still no process
You've watched everything. You still open a session and don't know what to do first, second or third.
-
You never know when it's finished
You tweak until your ears give out, bounce it anyway, and hate it in the car the next morning.
None of this means you're not good at this. It means nobody taught you what to listen for — or why you're making each move.
This is for you if
You want to stop guessing
and start deciding.
- You're an artist tired of handing your song over and hoping it comes back sounding like you meant it.
- You're a producer whose beats knock — but the full mix doesn't hold up next to the reference.
- You're a beginning mixer who knows the tools exist, but not when or why to reach for them.
- You've been mixing by feel and you want a process you can repeat on the next song, and the one after that.
- You want to understand your own sound well enough to take control of it.
What you'll learn
Ten things that change
how your mixes sound.
Turning a rough mix into a polished record
The full arc — where to start, what order to work in, and what "finished" actually looks like.
Getting vocals to sit clearly in the mix
Upfront and intelligible without fighting the beat or floating on top of it.
Making mixes sound full, balanced and professional
Why records feel big — and which of those moves you can make in your own session.
Using EQ and compression with intention
Not just how to turn the knobs, but what to listen for before and after you do.
Reverb and delay without the mud
Depth and dimension that stay clear, and how to keep effects out of the vocal's way.
Creating space in the mix
Vocals, drums, bass and instruments working together instead of competing.
Using reference songs properly
How to listen to a record you love and pull real, usable information out of it.
Finding the real problem first
Diagnose before you reach — what's actually wrong, before a plugin goes on it.
Movement, energy and emotion with automation
Making a mix breathe and build instead of sitting still for three minutes.
Knowing when a mix is actually finished
How to call it, bounce it and move on with confidence.
What you get
This isn't a video you watch.
It's a mix you actually make.
